When I need a break from some of the “serious” projects I’m working on, I pick up one of the small hobby projects I’ve always wanted to do and try to make a little progress.
One of the things I’ve always wanted was a sci-fi/cyberpunk looking desktop.
Not just a wallpaper, but something with interactive widgets. Widgets that do things like show me current stock prices, weather, CPU use, RAM use, computer part temperatures, etc. So, I started building that during a break.
These are the widgets I have so far, thanks to help from Claude, using Opus 5 (High). I also have different standard themes: Green, Amber, Blue, White on black, and Light (for crazy people who like white backgrounds). There’s also the ability to create more, highly-customized themes.
This is mostly a fun project, but some of the things may be useful. It would be nice to have the CPU/GPU temperature displayed while playing games like Cyberpunk 2077.
But, the thing I like most is it’s another way to make my computer feel like “my computer”, without needing to pay any one else for it. Well, other than my Claude subscription that I’m paying for anyway.
