It’s been a long time since I posted here, and the tech industry has changed a lot.
I spend more time nowadays thinking about technology as an industry, and how it affects our lives (for the better and for the worse).
AI can do many cool things, but there are problems with how it’s being used. This is especially true around governments, huge corporations, and media that want to use it for dependence, control, and manipulation – and not to help us live freer, better lives.
It’s time to make personal computing “personal” again.
As a programmer, I’ve built a new computer every few years, and have a lot of parts laying around. So I grabbed one of those older computers, installed Linux on it, popped in two RTX 3090s (before the prices went insane), and built my own local LLM computer. Now I don’t have to send my questions to Sam Altman.
I’ve also been working on other ways to improve privacy, security, and eliminating subscriptions as much as possible.
That’s what I’ll be talking about here from now on, ways to improve our lives with technology.
